The smallest park in the Massachusetts state forest and park system, Pilgrim Memorial is also the most heavily visited. Nearly one million people a year come from all over the world to visit the town where in 1620 Europeans first made a home in new England and to see Plymouth Rock where, tradition tells us, the passengers on the Mayflower first set foot in the New World. This simple glacial boulder on the shore of Plymouth Harbor has become a world famous symbol of the courage and faith of the men and women who founded the first New England colony.

A landscaped waterfront park provides scenic views of Plymouth Harbor. The Mayflower II, a replica of the ship that brought the first Pilgrims to Massachusetts, is anchored at the park.

Forefathers’ Monument
Allerton Street, Plymouth
This 11 acre site is a feature of Pilgrim Memorial State Park.  It is home to an impressive 81 foot, granite monument that memorializes a Victorian era interpretation of the pursuits that motivated the pilgrims to leave England and start their own colony. Open April through November.

Park Directions
Pilgrim Memorial State Park is located in southeastern Massachusetts.
From north or south: Rte. 3 to Rte. 44 (Plymouth). Follow 44 east to waterfront. The Forefathers' Monument is a one mile walk from the park. If you are driving, go right (north) along waterfront to Rte. 44. At lights go straight for about 200 yards, then take a right onto Allerton Street. Forefathers Monument is at the top of the hill approx. 100 yards on left.  There is on-site parking.
